  • Compass adjustment and swinging for superyachts
  • Deviation card and the Compass Certificate required under SOLAS, accepted for Flag and Port State inspections

Where

In port here, or out in the Pacific

Recent jobs were done in Auckland and Tahiti, and I fly to the Islands, Fiji included, for major work. Planning a passage into New Zealand waters? Get in touch before you arrive and the compass is one less thing on the list.

FAQ

Superyacht questions

Do you travel outside New Zealand?

Yes. In June 2026 I swung a 60 m superyacht in Tahiti, and I fly to the Islands, Fiji included, for major work.

What size yachts do you handle?

Recent superyacht jobs run from a 34 m expedition yacht to an 81 m three masted sailing superyacht. I have also swung a 75,000 ton cruise ship, so size is not the issue.

Who actually turns up to do the work?

Me. Mark Rothwell, Master Mariner. There is no front desk. The person you email is the person on the compass platform.

We are planning a passage to New Zealand. When should we get in touch?

Before you arrive. Email me your programme and I will work the compass in around it, in port or at the refit.

How often does SOLAS require the compass to be adjusted?

For vessels under SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19, the standard ISO 25862:2019 requires adjustment at least once every two years. Sooner after dry-docking or structural work, after equipment changes near the compass, or if deviations pass about 5 degrees. I issue the Compass Certificate on completion.

Planning a passage or a refit?

Email me your programme and I will work the compass in around it.
